Betty J. (Gillespie) Norton, 99, of Coatesville, passed away at home surrounded by her family on Sunday, June 26, 2022. She was the wife of the late Harold G. Norton who passed away in 2009. Born in Parkesburg, she was the daughter of the late Walter C. and Mabel (Mann) Gillespie.
Betty was a lifelong area resident. She graduated from Parkesburg High School in 1940. She was a lifelong homemaker, a member of Faith Community United Methodist Church in Atglen and was a volunteer for Friends of Hibernia.
She was a beloved, wife, mother, grandmother (gram or nanny). She was known for her home cooked meals; especially her chicken pot pie and rice pudding. She was also known for her wisdom, faith, kind heart and was always willing to lend a helping hand or an ear to just listen.
She is survived by her 3 children T. Barry Norton, and wife Carol, of Coatesville and their children Troy Norton, wife Adriana, Scott Norton, wife Jane and Kim Kowatch, husband Gary; Betty Jeanne Smith, widow of the late Donald, of Parkesburg, and their children, Karen Pratt, husband Ernest, Sue Anne Smith and Tom Smith; Kathleen McMichael, widow of the late Danie, of Coatesville, and their children Molly McMichael and Jeffrey McMichael. 12 great grandchildren; Andrew, Holly, Zachary, Christopher, Brooke, Dale, Jonathan, Julia, Ivey, Sophia, Adam, Logan, Ihlias, Owen, Riley, Imauri and Jace. 1 great great grandchild Weston. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Janice Lawrence, Robert Gillespie and Malcolm Gillespie.
A Celebration of Life memorial service will be held at Faith Community United Methodist Church, 322 Chester Street, Atglen, PA on Wednesday, July 13, 2022; visitation to start at 10:00 AM and services to start at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Faith Community Church, 322 Chester St. Atglen, PA, 19310.
