Anthony J. "Pops" Winski, Sr., 77, of Coatesville, passed away on Thursday, February 11, 2010 at the Brandywine Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Connie Schmidt Winski with whom he shared 54 years of marriage.
Born in Coatesville, he was the son of the late Leon Winski Sr. and Mary Lefchuk Winski. A resident of Coatesville all his life, he was a 1949 graduate of Scott High School. Anthony was an Army Veteran of the Korean War having served from 1952 to 1954. He was employed by G.O. Carlson in the payroll dept. until 1987 and later retired from the Lukens Steel Co. in 1998 after 12 years of service in the melt shop.
Mr. Winski was a lifelong parishioner of St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, life member and past President of the Polish American Citizens Club of Coatesville, life member of the West End Fire Co., member of the Amphibious Order of Frogs, member of the former Italian Club and Brandywine Fire Co., former head of the Stream Committee of the Atglen Sportmens Club, cofounder of Springton Dream Mile Trout Club and former player and coach of the Coatesville Softball League. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and he was an avid Phillies and Eagles fan.
He is survived, in addition to his wife, by five children; Anthony Winski, Jr. and wife Kim of Pomeroy, Joseph Winski and wife Robin of Thorndale, Martin Winski and wife Janet of Honey Brook, Barbara, wife of Charles Misiewicz, III of Downingtown, Lee Ann, wife of James Elliott III of Coatesville, daughter-in-law Patricia R. Winski of Gap, 12 grandchildren and one great grandchild on the way. He was preceded in death by a son John A. Winski in 2007.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, February 18, 2010 at 11:00am from St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, 209 W. Lincoln Highway, Coatesville, PA followed by interment with military honors at the St. Stanislaus Kostka Cemetery. Family and friends are also invited to attend the viewing on Wednesday evening from 7:pm to 9:pm at the Wilde Funeral Home, 434 Main St. Parkesburg, PA and also Thursday morning at the funeral home from 9:am to 10:30am.
