96 Years
Parkesburg, Pennsylvania

Ruth Janet Miller, 96, a lifelong resident of Parkesburg, arrived home in Heaven on Thursday, May 21, 2020 at the Phoenixville Hospital. Born in Parkesburg, she was the daughter of Chester E. Miller, former President of Parkesburg's First Farmer's Bank and Mildred Russell Miller of Stottsville and owners of the Russell Mill. She was also the granddaughter of H.C. Miller, a Parkesburg music composer and contemporary of John Philip Sousa.

Janet was a graduate of the former Parkesburg High School. After graduation she continued her education at Wilson College for Women. She began studying chemistry but her love for children took her towards an elementary bachelor's degree in teaching. She was employed as a school teacher for 16 years at the Benner School in Coatesville until Bible and prayer were removed from Public education.

Many will remember Janet as the camp director of Oak Run Christian Day Camp which was located in Sadsburyville. Many teens found purpose and direction in their lives due to Janet's passion for her Savior Jesus Christ and love of nature.

Janet was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church of Parkesburg where she taught Sunday School, led Women's Bible Studies and served on the Pulpit Committee. She participated in the Billy Graham Crusades and was a life long supporter of Dr. Graham's ministry.

Anyone who knew Janet appreciated her wit and invigorating discussions ranging from politics, Christianity, to the daily news. She enjoyed writing plays and poetry, traveling to parts of the USA by car with friends, canoeing, badminton and ping pong at her family's cabin.

She is survived by several second and third cousins, and close friend and caregiver, Jenine M. Winters.

Due to the current restriction on public gatherings, services and burial will be private at the convenience of the family.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Wilde Funeral Home of Parkesburg. Online condolences can be posted at www.wildefuneralhome.com

We are so saddened to hear of her passing. My siblings and I all did chores for her growing up and she was always so kind to us kids.

Wow. I remember Miss Miller from when I was a kid and into my early adulthood. My siblings and I would help her around the house. We always sat and chatted for a bit after the work was done. She never failed writing me beautiful poems and cards for all the holidays and birthdays. She always was kind, soft spoken, and was very caring to our entire family. I will miss visiting with her and losing the opportunity of saying hello more often in my adulthood. I love you Miss Miller. Rest In Peace!

Ms. Janet Miller will be missed.  She taught Sunday School classes when I was a kid growing up in Parkesburg.  I also had the opportunity of attending her Christian Day Camp for several years.  She cared about kids and teens and dedicated her life to teaching them Christian ways.  She had an impact on my life.  Thank you, Ms. Janet Miller.  Your kindness and caring was greatly appreciated!  Rest In Peace!

My favorite teacher ever!  4th grade at Benner school.  Took us to her cabin for a class trip.  Such a wonderful teacher and person.

O yes, I remember being in Miss Miller's day camp. She was a godly woman. I know she must be rejoicing in heaven now.

To all who knew, loved, learned from, corresponded and laughed with Janet Miller -- as I did -- you will also know that her faith was deeply rooted and informed every aspect of her long life. She was my mother's best friend for more than 35 years, and their affection for one another was a blessing to witness and share. Janet's (often anonymous) generosity to many was simply her way of living into the word of her God. Janet was ready to join Him earlier than He called her. I am both sad and rejoicing that she is at peace.
