Charles Eugene Bernard, 92, of Parkesburg and Atglen,Pennsylvania, passed away on Wednesday, August 14, 2019. He was most recently a patient at the Gino MerliVeterans Center in Scranton, PA. Born in Parkesburg, he was the son of the late John Bernard and Dorothy Ross Johnson, and stepson to LeRoy (Bud) W. Johnson.
Charles had many nicknames; Charlie, “Choo Choo” or as his close family called him “Tunney”. Choo Choo, as most knew him, was an area resident all his life. He honorably served in the US Army during WWII, and later in Korea. It was in combat in Korea where he was captured by the enemy and held as a prisoner of war for 28 months.
Choo Choo (Charlie) was known for his famous train whistle, was an avid pool player and a long time member of the Parkesburg VFW and the American Legion in Christiana, PA. Charles was employed by many area residents as a handyman, his last job was groundskeeper at the Roller Derby Skate Corp. of Atglen, PA for over 30 years.
Charlie had a great sense of humor, and his jokes knew no bounds. For example, thanksgiving dinner would always include the joke (deleted by newspaper)
Charles is survived by his niece, Stacie Summers (and husband Roger) from Hockessin, DE, long time family friend Laura Young of Parkesburg, PA and several cousins and great cousins. Charles was preceded in death by his sister, Darlene J Kuhns of Parkesburg, PA.

He will be missed
Choo choo will be missed by many....and will always be remembered by his famous train sound. He used to come over the Bridge in Parkesburg and the kids would all yell hey "choo choo" blow the whistle, which he always obliged them. RIP Choo, you were a good and hard-working man.

Stacie & Laura please keep reminding yourselves, when you get sad about his passing, that Tunney is in Heaven with Darlene, Aunt Dorothy & everyone he loved. He is standing tall & no more pain. Wow imagine that joyous reunion he's having. We'll see them all again one day. Tunney will probably do the train whistle as a welcome home for us. I love you both so much. If ya need me you know I will be there for you.
Will miss you dearly Uncle

My Uncle
Tunney...I wish I could have stood up yesterday and said these words at your service, but that isn't me. So I will say them here. There are no words that I can ever speak or write that will do you justice. I may not have said it often but you were one of the best parts of my childhood. You always made me laugh, you were always there to make us smile. Your strength, quiet courage and resounding spirit of joy was a blessing in my life. Thank you for always being a steady rock in a truly messed up world. You taught me that no matter what you go through it is what you make of it. Thank you for that. Thank you for not letting us be so serious all the time. I wish I could have said these things to you in, but you would have just said Ahhh..you weren't much on the mushy stuff. Holiday dinners will not be the same without you. Thank you for being you...Love you Tune....you are finally where there is peace and love. Nan is at peace now too, she has her boy back. Thank you for watching over us....I know you will be.

Wildefuneralhome is a great site. Actually, I'm seeing a site like this for the very first-time fix printer driver unavailable . They are doing a good deed by serving families, honoring them. They provide condolence articles like this one about Charles Eugene Bernard. I liked this site very much.
