Walter James McEwing, 80, of Parkesburg, passed away on Wednesday, June 23, 2010 at the Harrison Senior Living Center of Christiana. He was the beloved husband of Ruth Ellen Mowrey McEwing, with whom he shared 54 years of marriage.

Born on Wednesday, November 10, 1929 in Buck Run, he was the son of the late Harry P. McEwing and Ruth Wilson McEwing Taylor, and stepson of the late Reba Watkins McEwing.

A lifetime resident of Parkesburg, he was 1947 graduate of the former Parkesburg High School. He served honorably for the US Navy during the Korean War.

Mr. McEwing was employed by Acme Market for 38 years and the Lemheny Meat Market for two years as a butcher, retiring 19 years ago.

He was a lifetime member of the American Legion, a member and Past Commander of the VFW Post 4480, a member of the Goddard Lodge #383 F.& A.M. of Coatesville. He belonged to the Parkesburg Presbyterian Church.

He is survived, in addition to his wife, by three children: W. James McEwing, husband of Elizabeth, of Atglen, David H. McEwing, husband of Valerie, of Parkesburg and John H. McEwing, companion of Tatum Campbell, of Christiana; four grandchildren, one great grandchild, four step grandchildren; sister, Ruth Wolf, wife of Robert, of Parkesburg and half siblings, Kay Thomas and Patricia Grist.

He was predeceased by his brother Harry M. McEwing, half brother, Robert Taylor and step siblings, Harriet Julian and George Watkins.

The Funeral Service will be held on Monday, June 28, 2010 at 11 a.m. at the Wilde Funeral Home, 434 Main St., Parkesburg, followed by interment in the Upper Octorara Cemetery of Parkesburg. Family and friends are invited to attend the viewing, which will be held from 10 until 11 AM.

I will hold many memories in my heart of my Uncle Jim and know that he is being taken care of by Our Lord Jesus. I will continue to pray for my family at this most difficult time. I love all of you and wish I could be there.
