Gwendolyn F. Walters Hayes, 96, of the Heatherwood Retirement Community of Honey Brook, formerly of Hindsboro, IL, passed away on Tuesday, August 11, 2009 at the Brandywine Hospital. She was the widow of William Walters, who died in 1982 and also of J. C. Hayes, who passed away in 2004.

Born in Hindsboro, IL, she was the daughter of the late Martha Trowbridge Hammer and William N. Hammer. Her home was in Hindsboro, IL. where she had lived in the summer. She lived in N. Fort Myers, FL during the winter. In 2002, she and her husband, J. C. Hayes, settled at Heatherwood Retirement Community in Honeybrook, PA, where she lived until her death.

Gwen attended the Hindsboro Community High School and the University of Illinois, where she received a Master's Degree in Home Economics. She taught Home Economics in Windsor, IL. until 1955, when she married her first husband, William Walters.

Gwen is survived by Albert Mayer of Windsor, IL, Helen Tolliver of Morton, IL, Mrs. John Walters of St. Louis, MO, Dorothy Honn of Charleston, IL, and several nieces and nephews; stepchildren, Marnie Hershey, wife of Fred, of Coatesville and Jay Hayes, husband of Nancy, of Coatesville; four grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and three great, great grandchildren.

The funeral service will be held at the Hindsboro Christian Church of Hindsboro, IL and interment will be held at the Van Voors Cemetery of IL.
