Walter C. Applegate, 90, of Honey Brook, previously of Media, passed away on Wednesday, July 22, 2009 at the Tel Hai Nursing Home. He was the husband of Marcella Mannucci Applegate, with whom he has shared 64 years of marriage.

Born on March 11, 1919, in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Laura Patterson Applegate and Walter C. Applegate Sr. He served honorably in WWII as a 1st Lieutenant in the Army.

Walter graduated from Penn State University and was employed by Vincent Kling Assoc. of Philadelphia as a Landscape Architect.

He is survived, in addition to his wife, by three daughters, Danielle Applegate Ebaugh, and husband William, of Tallahassee, Fl., Sandra Applegate, and husband David Riemenschneider, of Ukiah, Ca., and Karen McKelvey, and husband Mark, of East Fallowfield; and six grandchildren.

Walter's Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, August 1, 2009 at 10 a.m. at the Tel Hai Chapel, 1200 Tel Hai Circle, Honey Brook, Pa., followed by interment in the St. Malachi Cemetery in Cochranville. Family and friends are invited to attend the visitation, which will be held at the Chapel from 9:30 until 10 AM. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made online to the Nature Conservancy at www.nature.org.

Walter will be missed greatly. He was a kindhearted man, with the greatest sense of humor. I value knowing him. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you.
