Thomas Mar Caldwell, 79, of Cochranville, passed away on Saturday, May 11, 2024 at his home surrounded by his family. He was the beloved husband of Gayle Wilson Caldwell with whom he shared 58 years of marriage. Born in Coatesville, he was the son of the late Charles Caldwell and Alice Gee Caldwell.

Tom was an area resident all his life and a 1962 graduate of the Oxford High School. He proudly served in the US Navy for four years and one year as a  "brown water sailor" during the Vietnam War. After his honorable discharge, he continued his education at Goldie Beacom College and night school at Franklin and Marshall College in Lancaster.

Tom was involved most of his life in the mushroom industry, starting as a grower with Royal Farms and later in sales for Amycel and Remo Toto.  He became the Mushroom Sales Manager for Penwest Foods based in Denver, Colo. and later as a consultant for Thomas Thomas Mfg.  in Calgary, Canada.  He also owned and operated a small exotic (Oyster Mushrooms) for several years in Kirkwood, Pa.  He retired as a purchasing agent for ToJo Mushrooms in 2012.

He is survived, in addition to his wife, by two sons; John Michael Caldwell and wife Vicky of Oxford and Bradley Caldwell of Cochranville, three grandchildren; Amanda Taylor and husband Mark of Bealeton, VA, Jack Caldwell of Christiana, PA and Shauna Whitehead and husband Joe of Atglen, and one brother Gary Caldwell and wife Janine of Gap, PA.  He had three great grand children, Riley and Colton Whitehead and Tristan Taylor.  Tom had a special close relationship with all of his nieces and nephews.

Tom was a lover of travel and adventure, especially if it involved clear, warm water.  He traveled frequently for his jobs but still enjoyed over 20 cruises and as many trips to Mexico.   He loved playing cards, especially winning, but was always a good sport.  He was a very generous man who gave freely to those in need.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 18, 2024 at 2:30 PM at the Wilde Funeral Home, 434 Main St. Parkesburg, PA with visitation from 1:30 PM to the time of the service. Interment will follow the service at the Cochranville Methodist Cemetery in Cochranville, PA.

Dear Gayle, so sorry for your loss. Growing up , always with Dede, swimming and having fun, I always thought of Tom and you as Uncle Tom and Aunt Gayle.
