John L. Rutledge, 88, formerly of Parkesburg, passed away on Monday, July 6, 2015 at Conestoga View of Lancaster. He was the husband of the late Josephine S. Rutledge with whom he shared 65 years of marriage. Born in Pomeroy, he was the son of the late Ralph M. and Charlotte Slaymaker Rutledge.
John served honorably in the US Army during WWII from 1944 - 1947. He was employed by Luria Brothers of South Coatesville retiring in 1989. He then was employed by Our Lady of Consolation Church as church sexton.
He was a member at Our Lady of Consolation Church and he was also a member of the Knights of Columbus.
He is survived by three daughters, Sharon R. Stoltzfus of New Holland, Christine A. Umble, wife of Robert, of Pawleys Island, SC and Mary Jo Russin of Mt. Joy; seven grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, and one brother Bruce C. Rutledge of Cedar Knoll, PA. He was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, July 10, 2015 at 11am at the Our Lady of Consolation Catholic Church, 603 W 2nd Ave, Parkesburg, followed by interment in the Parkesburg Catholic Cemetery. The viewing will be held at the Church from 10 until 11 AM.
